Charles Hodgetts

Term: 1951 - 1952
CHARLES HODGETTS of 4 Seba Avenue, served 4 separate terms as our 6th chief 1951&52, 56&57, 1960 thru 1966 skipping a year then 1968&1969 for 11 years total. He was a plumber and an Ex-Navy man. Definitely our most photogenic chief.

In 1942 Hodgetts was awakened by faint cries of help. He got out of bed and open the nearest window which had a good view of Creek. Help! We’re stranded, a voice cried! Where are you huh? Hoddgets Asked. In the water came the reply! HURRY we are freezing! Hodges made for the creek and put out in a small rowboat. Guided by The Voice across the water Hodges finally reached an automobile which was submerged in 4 ft of water about 20 ft offshore. On the roof of the car he found 2 shivering young motorists from Bensonhurst where they explained how they could not see and thought they were getting back to the Belt Parkway
