Since its inception in 2019, The Gerrittsen Beach Volunteer Fire Department’s UAS (Unmanned Aircraft System) Program features two specialized drones tailored for different operational needs.
The DJI Mini 2, known for its lightweight design and up to 31 minutes of flight time, is primarily used for rapid reconnaissance tasks. The DJI Enterprise Dual, equipped with both visual and thermal imaging capabilities, is invaluable for advanced thermal assessments.
These drones are most frequently deployed at regional brush fires but are also versatile enough for search and rescue, fire scene analysis, and hazardous material incidents. Operated by FAA Part 107 Certified Remote Pilots, our UAS Program strictly adheres to FAA regulations and NYC’s Chapter 24 drone laws, ensuring all flights are conducted safely and legally.
