With funding provided by State Senator Andrew Gounardes we were able to complete the complex grant process that began in 2019 and acquire a new 2022 CanAm Defender 6×6, built by RKO Enterprises .
This advanced firefighting vehicle is packed with features to improve safety in our community:
- 130-gal UPF Copoly tank
- Waterax Versax fire pump
- Quick Quench Foam System
- Junkin stokes rescue basket
- Feniex lights/siren/PA
The new unit will work alongside our Brush Fire Unit 2014 ASAP (Alternative Support Apparatus) to fight brush fires and perform rescues in Gerrittsen Beach. A big thank you goes to Chief Cavanagh and the Past Chief Bogart of Broad Channel for bringing this amazing unit all the way from Indiana.
